The play

Art, faith and an independent spirit

Fortune’s Way, or Notes on Art for Catholics (and Others) is a one-act play by Steve Hauk featuring songs by Piotr J. Flatau.

Euphemia Charlton Fortune was a distinguished American artist celebrated for her contribution to twentieth-century liturgical art. She founded the Monterey Guild, whose altars, mosaics and ecclesiastical works appeared in more than seventy churches across the United States.

The play premiered at the Carmel Mission and later received staged readings at museums, libraries, churches and arts organizations across California. A complete performance was recorded on May 10, 2025, at Saint Peter’s Parish in Kansas City, Missouri.

Could I for the Firth set sail For the cliff-built town of Crail Fairydom itself would pale. Fife is home to me.
